VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – It’s hyped as the biggest wrestling event in America, and South Rowan freshman Carson Raper returned with All-American honors.
The NHSCA (National High School Coaches Association) Nationals, held on March 27-29, attracted thousands of male and female wrestlers from all 50 states, as well as some from military bases outside the U.S.
Raper, who wrestles at 106 pounds, finished fourth in the 256-man bracket for freshmen. Raper was 7-2 in the event with both losses to Jaxon Moralez (New Mexico). Raper lost to Moralez in the quarterfinals and in the third-place match.
Raper won the NCHSAA 4A championship in February and was the Dutch Meyer Award winner as Rowan County Wrestler of the Year.
