A Salisbury man was shot and killed in Lexington early Saturday and the man who allegedly pulled the trigger is now behind bars.
According information from the Lexington Police Department, 44-year-old Robert Jermaine Thomas, of Salisbury, succumbed to wounds sustained when he was struck by a gunshot on Saturday in the 1000 block of South Talbert Boulevard.
The LPD arrested and charged Davone Martese Kind, 25, of Thomasville, with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon for his alleged role in Thomas’ death.
Reports indicate that at 1:23 a.m. on Saturday, LPD officers were dispatched to the South Talbert Boulevard location in response to a call reporting a shooting.
“When officers arrived, they found Thomas with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds,” a release from the department said. “Officers immediately provided emergency medical aid before he was transported to Lexington Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.”
Investigators determined that a large party was taking place at the location when an altercation that lead to the shooting occurred.
As detectives continued the investigation Saturday morning, they determined that Kind reportedly left the scene in Thomas’ vehicle. Investigators later recovered the vehicle in Thomasville. They also determined that Kind was taken by private vehicle to Duke University Hospital in Durham for treatment of a gunshot wound he sustained during the incident. After hospital staff medically evaluated and cleared him, Kind was taken into custody at the hospital at 12:45 p.m.
LPD detectives worked and processed multiple scenes in Lexington and Thomasville. Investigators are still working to determine whether anyone else was involved. Evidence is still being gathered and processed, and the investigation remains ongoing.
