HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
West Rowan’s Luke Ponczka, Maddox Moore and Brody Pope were recognized as All-Region 6 players by the NC Baseball Coaches Association. Carson’s Ryan Snyder, Carson Kirk, Cameron Williamson, Kendal Sifford, Dylan Alexander and Maverick Walters were All-Region. A.L. Brown’s Gavin Yow, Mason Cook, Drew Ryan, Maddox Langley and, Matt Blume are All-Region.
Earlier, West’s Brant Graham, Carter Durant and Cole Blevins and A.L. Brown’s Mason Teal were recognized by the NCBCA as All-State. East Rowan’s Harrison Ailshie was the 5A Player of the Year and was named to the All-NC team that includes all classifications.
LADY LEGION SOFTBALL
Rowan’s Blue team won 13-3 against Rowan’s Red team on Wednesday at Whitley Field.
It was a conference game played in a good atmosphere.
Peyton Mulkey, Emory Stewart, Mary Kate Okula and Blakley Gantt had multiple hits.
Skyler Fischbeck pitched well for the Blues.
TRAINERS
South Rowan’s Trayvon Simmons was recognized as Regional Trainer of the Year.
LOCAL GOLF
GARS members played a computer-picked Captain’s Choice Tournament at Corbin Hills.
Two teams tied for the best score at minus-13. In a scorecard playoff, the team
of Frank Gobble, Bobby Clark, John Goodman and John Mitchell took first place over the team of Ed Miller, Johnny Morris, Bob Turner and Tommy Lambert.
Third at minus-12 was the team of Mario Cuellar, Lynn Shook, Bob Niekras,
Gary Stevenson and Steve Vail.
Closest to the pin winners were Ron Ervin (No. 2), Dickie Peeler (No. 5 and 13) and John Struzick (NO. 16).
There were nine eagles made by seven teams.
Five were made on the par-5 No. 6 hole by Team Ted Weant, Steve Albanese, Brian Collins, Tommie Horton; Team Peeler, Mike Sides, Miller, Paul Rogers; Team Ray Pope, Dan Newell, Joe Dunn, Ronnie Morton; Team Alan Carlisle, Struzick, Ken Safrit, John Croote, and team Keith Mason, Don Bost, Chuck Jones, Bruce Potts.
Team Wayne Kluttz, Rex Parrish, Carl Moore, Jim Brown eagled the par-5 No. 18 hole.
Team Miller, Morris, Turner, Lambert eagled the 7th, 11th and 18th holes.
