SALISBURY — The Salisbury Police Department is in the midst of a death investigation after a body was discovered in the Catawba College preserve.
According to reports from the SPD, detectives with the department responded to the Stanback Ecological Preserve around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, following reports of the discovery of a deceased individual.
Upon arrival, detectives spoke with a college employee who found an adult male in a remote area of the preserve. The employee told detectives that the individual appeared to be deceased. Detectives secured the scene and began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
The deceased was identified as 38-year-old Carlos Enrique Leon Aristoteles. Investigators with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department confirmed that Aristoteles had been reported missing in Charlotte last month on May 29. Authorities have also confirmed that he was not a Rowan County resident or a student at Catawba College.
The Salisbury Police Department is actively investigating the manner and circumstances involving the death. There is no current indication of an active threat to the community.
