THOMASVILLE — West Davidson’s seven-run first inning made things challenging, but West Rowan still won its seventh baseball game in a row on Saturday afternoon.
Luke Ponczka’s two-run homer in the 11th inning gave the Falcons an 18-16 victory.
Yes, 18-16. It was the wildest game of the season to this point and it might still be the wildest one after the season is over.
Ponczka’s homer in the 11th was his second of the afternoon. His three-run homer in the seventh got the Falcons (7-1) into extra innings.
The Green Dragons (4-3) scored 10 runs in the first three innings, but Cole Blevins hit a grand slam for the Falcons in the third to get the Falcons back in it.
West Davidson kept scoring and was up 16-13 when Ponczka decided it was time for some free baseball.
Ponczka also had a double. He scored three and drove in six.
The 230-pound slugger, who has moved from first base to third base this season, has five homers, five doubles and 21 RBIs in the Falcons’ eight games.
Preston Javidi scored three runs.
Carter Durant had three hits and scored twice. He had a double. Durant also pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
Brant Graham had two hits and three RBIs. He had a double.
Blevins scored two and drove in four with the slam.
Maddox Moore had a double and scored two. Cole Ludwick had two hits and scored two.
Lucas Watts had two hits. Brody Pope had two hits. Brody Hobbs had a double.
Cade Scruggs was the sixth pitcher for the Falcons and got the win. He proved tough to hit and got the last eight outs.
