GREENSBORO — The state tournament for individual wrestling began on Thursday with the qualifying girls competing in two matches.
West Rowan’s Hadley Perry (107), Olyvia Brown (114) and Nevaeh McCullough (138) went 2-0 and will wrestle for state titles on Friday.
East Rowan’s Taylor Moore (235) went 2-0 and will wrestle for a state championship.
West’s Aliyah Perez (145) and East’s Courtney Stough (100), Mya Craig (120) and Cristen Robinson (185) went 1-1 on Thursday and still could finish as high as third.
West is second in the team scoring, although the Falcons are well behind Parkwood. East is eighth.

In the 7A championships, A.L. Brown’s Kennedy Yow (138) and Clear Wesley (185) went 2-0 and reached championship matches.
Amory Mendoza (100), Karina Martinez (120) and Kate Vasquez (152) went 1-1 and still could finish as high as third.
Three Wonder state qualifiers were eliminated by their second loss.
A.L. Brown is second in the team scoring, but is well behind Jack Britt.

Boys state tournament action will take place on Friday and Saturday.
South Rowan (4A), West Rowan, Carson and East Rowan (5A) and A.L. Brown (7A) have state qualifiers. Top-four finishers in regionals qualified.
South qualifiers are Carson Raper (106), Emilio Diaz (113), Garrison Raper (132) and Aiden Carter (175). Garrison Raper will miss the state tournament. He suffered a knee injury in the regional.
A.L. Brown qualifiers are Landon Logan (120), Everon Riddle (132), Chase Hernandez (150), Mason Cook (157), Logan Yow (190), Kaulton Kuddie (215) and Quentin Whisonafe (285).
Carson qualifiers are Joseph Little (120) and Griffin Barber (157).
East qualifiers are Christopher McDonald (113), Catoe Byrd (120), Lucas Restrepo (126), Jamal Hall (138) and Braylen Yates (165).
West qualifiers are James Stephens (132), Chris Gaither (138), Drew Taylor (144), Harry Hartwell (190), Xavier Gray (215) and Bryson Ellis (285).
Taylor was named Most Outstanding Wrestler for the 5A dual team state championships.
