BALTIMORE — Repairmen for dented backboards and rims may have been summoned to CFG Bank Arena after Livingstone’s 59-46 win over Elizabeth City State on Tuesday afternoon.
Livingstone scored three points in the opening quarter of a first-round game in the women’s CIAA Basketball Tournament. While the shooting percentages remained ugly, the bottom line was pretty for the Blue Bears.
Livingstone’s starting backcourt shot 2-for-26, but the Blue Bears are still alive.
Livingstone won despite shooting 1-for-17 on 3-pointers and 26 percent from the field. The Blue Bears (9-18) won by out-rebounding the Vikings, 55-29, and by winning the turnover battle, 24-18.
The Vikings (5-21) made eight 3-pointers, but didn’t do anything else well, shot 27 percent from the field and called it a season.
Neille Reaves had 17 points and 10 rebounds for Livingstone. CIAA Defensive Player of the Year Breasia Coit had nine points and 12 rebounds. Boston Bates scored 12. Damaria Moree had a difference-making game off the bench for the Blue Bears with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Livingstone, fourth seed from the Southern Division, will hope to shoot better on Wednesday as it tangles with Northern Division No. 1 Bowie State in a 4:30 p.m. quarterfinal.
