ROCKWELL — The Town of Rockwell’s annual event, aptly named Rock the Park, won’t go on as planned this weekend. The town clerk said that it won’t be rescheduled.
In a Friday email, Town Clerk Brittany Horton confirmed that the town would not make up a date for the event that was formally cancelled on Thursday as a result of the impending weather forecast for the weekend.
Since the vendors were already booked for the event, the town re-extended the invitation for those organizations and businesses to appear at the upcoming National Night Out event scheduled for Oct. 6.
“After closely monitoring the weather forecast and considering the safety of our community, the Town of Rockwell has made the difficult decision to cancel Rock the Park,” Thursday’s announcement said.
It later acknowledged, “We know this is disappointing, and it is not a decision we made lightly. Rock the Park is a special day for our community, and we were looking forward to celebrating with everyone. Thank you to everyone who has supported this event and helped make Rock the Park such a great Rockwell tradition. We look forward to seeing everyone at our next community event.
Thank you for understanding and, most importantly, staying safe.”
Last year’s event was also impacted by summer showers but not outright canceled.
