SALISBURY — Two Koontz Elementary students were reportedly transported by EMS on Monday after consuming two unidentified pills.
Koontz Principal Leslie Kinnard sent a message to parents and guardians of students on Monday regarding the incident.
“Two of our students got sick and had to be transported by EMS,” Kinnard’s message siad. “It appears that each took an unknown pill at school.”
Kinnard went on to offer the incident as a chance to motivate parents and guardians to have increased conversations with their children, even if those conversations can be difficult.
“I encourage our families to use this opportunity to have conversations with your students about the seriousness of taking any type of pill or unknown substance and how it can cause serious illness and other problems,” Kinnard said. “Students should also never bring any type of medications onto the campus themselves. All medications must be checked into the front office by a parent or guardian. In addition, please make sure that you are checking student bookbags each day to ensure that no inappropriate items make their way to school.
