LANDIS — The Town of Landis has a new police chief.
Following the resignation of Police Chief Matthew Geelen, who took a position with the Town of Pilot Mountain, Landis officials announced that Detective Sgt. Shawn Hill has formally accepted the role of interim police chief.
The announcement was made in a Monday email from Town Manager Micheal Ambrose.
“Chief Hill will begin transitioning with Chief Geelen from Wednesday, July 8, 2026, through Friday, July 24, 2026, to help ensure a smooth leadership transition,” Ambrose’s release said.
Ambrose’s email indicated that Hill’s experience working with the town should make him an asset to Landis and its residents.
“He has served with the Landis Police Department since 2019 and brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and dedication to the department,” Ambrose said.
The recruitment process for the permanent police chief position will begin this week. The position will remain open through Friday, Aug. 7.
According to the release, once the posting closes, Landis will begin the hiring process with the goal of selecting and appointing a permanent police chief by Wednesday, Sept. 30.
“Please join me in congratulating Chief Hill as he steps into this important leadership role,” Ambrose said. “I also want to thank Chief Geelen for his dedicated service to the Town of Landis and for assisting with a smooth transition.
“We remain committed to providing professional, responsive, and dependable public safety services to our residents throughout this process. Thank you for your continued trust and support.”
