Local Democrats invite people to meet Rowan County commissioner candidates, Hannah Addair, Ray Pope and Alissa Redmond, who will be guest speakers at the July 11 Rowan County Democratic Party monthly breakfast potluck.
The meeting begins at 10 am at RCDP Headquarters, 1504 W. Innes St., Salisbury. Anyone is welcome to bring a dish to share, or just bring themselves. Doors open at 9:45 a.m.
Hannah Addair
A Rowan native and a lifelong resident of Rowan County, Addair is a proud alumna of West Rowan High School and Catawba College, where she serves as sustainability program director at the Center for the Environment. She believes commissioners have difficult questions to tackle in a rapidly changing county. Addair states “Rowan County is known for its agriculture and beautiful natural places; if development continues in the way it has the last few years, what will we be known for in the future?” Her slogan — “Addair Cares.”
Ray Pope
Pope is a retired public school science teacher who found his true home in Rowan County. Pope believes that “county commissioners shape the ground upon which daily life is built — our schools, our lands, our waters, our safety and the stewardship of the public trust. To me, these duties echo the old truth that government derives its just powers from the consent of the governed, and that such consent must be guarded with vigilance. …that the preservation of American values begins here, with us, in Rowan County, with those willing to stand firm when the times demand it.” Pope encourages Rowan County to be “Better Together.”
Alissa Redmond
Local business owner and former diplomat with the U.S, Dept. of State, Redmond finds that “Rowan County is uniquely positioned with the majority of available land along the I-85 corridor between Charlotte and Greensboro/Winston-Salem corridor, presenting vast opportunities for development that works with — not against — existing neighborhoods.” Her priorities as commissioner are to encourage economic development, talent retention, veterans support, community development and literacy. Redmond is and will forever be “a preacher’s kid at heart.”
A primary goal of the RCDP is to provide opportunities for voters to become more knowledgeable as they decide which candidates have earned their vote come the 2026 General Election. Anyone who is interested can read more about each of these candidates and others running in 2026 at https://rowancountydemocrats.com/ under the 2026 Elections tab. In addition, the organization asks everyone to mark calendars and attend the RCDP annual FunFest on Aug. 8, described as a “local tradition for community, candidates and camaraderie.”
The release from the organization added, “To all who are concerned about the state of our democracy, RCDP invites you to come for the cause and stay for the people at their many events.”
