HUDSON – Leisha Carter hit a grand slam and drove in seven runs to lead the Rowan County Lady Legion team to a 12-1 win at Caldwell County in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader.
Caldwell bounced back to win 3-1 in the second game.
Remi Hagerty did the pitching in the first game and held Caldwell to four hits. She struck out five and walked two.
Carter’s big game also included a double.
Raney Phelps homered for Rowan. Cressley Patterson had a triple. Phelps, Patterson and Ava Baxter had two hits each.
Rowan had a four-run fourth and a five-run fifth.
Ansley Jenkins pitched well in the second game, but Caldwell scored three in the second and held on to win.
Patterson and Baxter had doubles as Rowan (8-9) scored in the fourth inning.
