The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) and its partners are participating in National Fishing and Boating Week, held the first week of June each year, and Granite Quarry is getting in on the action.
Fish for Fun at Granite Lake Park gives everyone the chance to cast a line in a spot usually reserved for peaceful views. Held several times a year, the free, family-friendly event invites anglers of all ages to enjoy the great outdoors and maybe even catch dinner.
The pond is freshly stocked with catfish by NC Wildlife, and thanks to the Granite Quarry Events Committee, free rods, reels and bait are available to borrow. No license? No problem as NC Wildlife waives the requirement for the day. Whether you’re a seasoned fisherman or a first-time caster, Fish for Fun is the perfect way to make memories by the water.
The event takes place from 9 a.m. to noon on June 6 at Granite Lake Park, located at 500 U.S. Hwy. 52.
Besides Fish for Fun in Granite Quarry, Fintastic Fishing Festival will be held Saturday, June 13 at the Pechmann Fishing Education Center in Fayetteville. Families with children 15 years old and younger are invited to enjoy a full day of fishing fun, hands-on learning and outdoor adventure. With over 12 interactive exhibits and demonstrations, this event is the perfect way to learn about fishing and the vital role anglers play in conserving North Carolina’s fisheries. All kids 15 and under will be entered to win a Unified Sportsman License, generously provided by the North Carolina Wildlife Federation.
Festival highlights include live fishing demonstrations, casting contests, kayaking, fly-fishing and fly-tying, a boating simulator, fishing knot tutorials, catch-and-release fishing for all ages and much more. Please bring your own medium-action fishing gear (optional) and natural bait. If you don’t have gear, the Pechmann Center will provide fishing rod and reel combos on loan and worms for bait. Food trucks will also be on-site during this family-friendly event.
