I am writing this letter to the Salisbury Post to express my disappointment in the quality of the work that was done in the tree trimming project. Day in and day out for several weeks, I watched as tree branches were torn down and left at the side of the road for later pickup. Trees that were on people’s property were slaughtered without prior thought and without the permission of the owner, they blocked driveways and sidewalks on people’s property, often keeping the property owner from accessing their own driveways and sidewalks. The sloppiness with which this project was executed demonstrates poorly thought out and sloppy planning. The city killed four of my Leland Cyprus trees, having hacked off branches and leaving the branches hanging due to incomplete cutting. The cutting was overdone to a point that the remaining trees were ravaged and uneven. This is a disgrace and residents of Salisbury should be mindful that their government does not respect their property. It is not our problem that they have failed to stay up to date with the growth of trees and how it impacts wires and transmitters. If they had been more mindful of the tree growth in the city, they should have tackled the problem without disrupting traffic and having road work signs on every street in Salisbury.
I received a note from a Mr. Charles Hill who stated that I should be grateful that they trimmed our trees. They did not trim my trees, they slaughtered my trees. Many folks in Salisbury are shocked by the arrogance and sloppiness of our city officials.
