LOCAL GOLF
SOUTHERN PINES — Brady McIntyre, an 18-year-old who just graduated from East Rowan, shot 32-35 -67 in a North Carolina Amateur Qualifier held at Mid South Golf Club on Wednesday.
McIntyre made six birdies and two bogeys and tied for first at 4-under.
Also advancing was Chad Frye of Landis. She shot 1-under 70 and tied for ninth.

ADVANCE — GARS members played at Oak Valley Golf Club.
Low ‘A’ Flight player was Larry Petrea with a net of 67.74. Low ‘B’ Flight player was Mario Cuellar with a net of 63.88. Low ‘C’ Flight player was David Rosier with a net of 64.55. Low ‘D’ Flight player was John Croote with a net of 65.04.
Petrea won low gross score with a 74 and equaled his age. Cuellar won low net. Super Senior was Jesse McBride with a net of 72.34.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
The Catawba Indians arrived in Cary on Thursday for the Division II Championships.
Honors continue to pour in for the Indians, who will be in action at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Brandon Crabtree, Joe Burleyson (East Rowan) and Casey Gouge (West Rowan) were named All-Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Pfeiffer’s Landry Stewart (Carson) and Heather Vaughn were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America team.

Emma Clarke (West) had a hit and a sac fly as Tennessee opened the World Series with a 6-3 win against Texas.

Furman outfielder Katie Peeler (Salisbury) received all-district academic accolades.
MINOR LEAGUES
South Bend’s Kane Kepley (South Rowan) stole third base twice on Wednesday, his 26th and 27th steals of the season.
LADY LEGION
Rowan County had so many players come out that it organized three teams, a Senior team and two Junior teams. The Senior team is White, while the Junior teams are Red and Blue. The White team is scheduled to start the season on June 2 against Hickory.
HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
A.L. Brown catcher Mason Teal was named Greater Metro Conference Player of the Year.
Teal batted .513 in conference play with 20 hits, 15 RBIs and seven extra-base hits. He’s a Barton recruit.
Also making all-conference were Mathew Blume, Maddox Langley, Gavin Yow and Drew Ryan.
Blume is a Mars Hill recruit.
North Lincoln easily swept two games from Seaforth to take the 5A state championship.
Bunn swept two from Burns to win the 4A state title.
East Rutherford and Whiteville will need a Game 3 to decide the 3A state championship.
Cherryville and Rosewood split the first two games of the 2A championship series.
NC Leadership Academy will play Bear Grass Charter for the 1A state title.
The 8A matchup this weekend will be Providence against Corinth Holders.
South Caldwell will take on Southern Lee for the 6A championship this weekend.
The 7A finalists are Holly Springs and Marvin Ridge.
HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL
Enka swept West Carteret to take the 5A state championship.
Weddington swept Conley to win the 7A state championship and cap au undefeated season.
Providence and Corinth Holders have split the first two games of the 8A state championship series.
Roxboro Community School and North Duplin split the first games in the 2A championship series.
South Caldwell will play Union Pines for the 6A championship.
West Stanly plays Southwestern Randolph in the 4A finals.
The 1A state championship matchup is Bear Grass Charter vs. Robbinsville.
In 3A softball, West Wilkes and McMichael will play for the championship this weekend.
HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS SOCCER
NCHSAA state championship games are being played in Durham on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Woods Charter beat Summit Charter 3-0 in the 1A state championship match. Woods Charter is in Chapel Hill, Summit Charter is in the mountains.
Hoggard and Myers Park played for the 8A state title on Thursday.
The 2A title will be decided by Franklin Academy and Christ the King on Friday. Jacksonville will battle Charlotte Catholic for the 6A championship Hickory plays Dixon in the 5A championship.
On Saturday, Wake Prep will play Pine Lake Prep in the 3A final. Carrboro will play Hibriten in the 4A championship match. Holly Springs will battle Weddington in the 5A final.
