JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The top four seeds – Lenoir-Rhyne, Anderson, Carson-Newman and Lincoln Memorial – advanced in the South Atlantic Conference Softball Tournament over the weekend.
Sixth-seeded Catawba (26-25) lost two games at third-seeded Carson-Newman to close the season.
Alex Baquie gave Catawba a strong pitching outing in the 2-1 loss, but the Indians were held to two hits. Brianna Gallagher and Dakotah Williams had the hits.
In a 14-6 Carson-Newman victory, Gallagher went 4-for-4 for Catawba with her ninth and 10th homers, but the Eagles were able to overcome her effort. Grace Gregory went 5-for-5 with a homer and four RBIs for the Eagles. Catawba tried four pitchers, but the Eagles kept hitting.
Top-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne swept Emory & Henry in two low-scoring games. Fourth-seeded Lincoln Memorial swept Mars Hill. Second-seeded Anderson eliminated Wingate in a series that went three games.
Tournament action resumes on May 7.
