A man was killed in a boating incident on Tuckertown Reservoir near the town of Richfield over the weekend.
According to information from the North Carolina Wildlife Commission, Justin Michael Goodman’s body was recovered from the lake.
Reports indicated that on Sunday, at approximately 10 a.m., a boating incident occurred. Wildlife Officer Avery Allen received a call from Raleigh dispatch indicating there was a capsized Jon boat at the mouth of Cabin Creek on Tuckertown Reservoir.
The caller that reported the capsized vessel also provided the registration number of the vessel. The vessel was registered to Goodman.
Allen contacted Goodman’s wife via telephone, and she indicated that her husband had gone fishing the night before and was overdue to return.
She had not heard from him since 10 p.m. on Saturday.
Allen, Officer Ashley Griffin, Sergeant Brandon Barbee, Healing Springs Fire Department and Liberty Fire Department launched boats and attempted to locate the capsized vessel. While searching for the vessel, first responders learned that a nearby fisherman had located a body in the water.
First responders located the capsized vessel at the mouth of Cabin Creek on Tuckertown Reservoir. Goodman’s body was found approximately 50 feet away from the vessel tangled in a rope that was connected to the vessel. Goodman was transported to Monroe South Piedmont Autopsy Center for examination.
According to NC Wildlife, the incident is still under investigation.
