SALISBURY — The Salisbury Police Department is in the midst of a homicide investigation.
According to a press release from Chief Patrick “PJ” Smith, Salisbury Police officers responded to a reported residential breaking and entering in progress call at a residence in the 1200 block of Beard Street around 4 p.m. on Thursday.
Upon arrival, officers reportedly located multiple individuals with injuries, including one person who had been shot and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The initial investigation determined the incident was domestic-related and escalated into an assault involving multiple people.
The identity of the deceased will be released pending appropriate family notification.
Detectives interviewed those involved and executed a search warrant at the residence. A male subject believed to be the shooter, along with an injured female, were transported to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center for medical treatment. Criminal charges may be forthcoming.
All individuals involved in this incident have been identified and accounted. There is no ongoing threat to the community.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the investigation.
