Tuesday games …
HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER
SALISBURY – Salisbury improved to 9-1 overall and 3-1 in the South Piedmont Conference with a 2-1 win over West Rowan on Tuesday.
The Hornets got goals from Maddie Crabb and Anna Kate Goodman to topple the Falcons (3-4, 1-4).
“It was gutty performance by all measures,” SHS head coach Matt Parrish said. “West did everything it could to muddy the game up in the midfield. They were the more aggressive team and beat us to the vast majority of first touches. We had multiple chances to stretch the lead but were turned away time and again by West’s back line or keeper.”
Salisbury got excellent play from Jamilet Figueroa and the backline of Luna Nunez Velazquez, Lola Koontz, Elsie Hinson, and Harper Haines. They held the Falcons to four shots on frame.
Crabb scored in the 29th minute to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead, but the Falcons got the equalizer nine minutes later when Addison Broeckling assisted on a goal by Madison Downing.
Goodman was fouled in the box in the 65th minute and converted the PK for the decisive goal.
Next up for the Hornets is another break, followed by Carson at home on April 8 at 6 p.m.
