High school tennis
Salisbury’s tennis team won 9-0 at Carson on Monday.
Carson is one of the better teams in the South Piedmont Conference, but the Hornets (7-0, 7-0) rolled again.
AJ Jarrell, Bryant Davis, Henry Walser, Aiden Moss, Owen Hammill and Luke Yang won in singles.
Winning doubles teams were Jarrell-Davis, Walser-Moss and Hammill-Luke Fowler.

East Rowan won 8-1 at South Rowan in Monday’s SPC tennis match.
Thomas Stokes, Will Kesler, Spencer Ingram and Isaiah Garza won contested matches. The Mustangs won by forfeit at 5 and 6 singles and 3 doubles against the shorthanded Raiders.
East’s Ingram-Tobi Brink team won at No. 2 doubles.
South’s win was by freshmen Coen Overby and Brecken Sutton at No. 1 doubles.

West Rowan took a 5-0 victory against shorthanded Robinson in Monday’s SPC action.
The Falcons got singles wins from Callen Batts, Phineas Mixon, John Walters and Ryan Branham.
Mixon-Caleb Kimbrough won in doubles.
High school basketball
West Rowan’s Tiara Thompson played for the North Carolina squad in the epic 109-107 overtime loss to South Carolina played in the Carolinas Classic played in Spartanburg.
Some said it was the best high school girls basketball game they’ve ever seen.
College baseball
Catawba’s Logan Dyer (East Rowan) was named South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week.
Dyer batted .579 for the week with 11 base hits in four games, including two doubles, with four RBIs and nine runs scored.

Daxton Savage (Carson) had a strong pitching performance in his most recent outing for Caldwell Community College, striking out 11 in five innings. He is throwing in the high 80s.

JD James (South Rowan) had a bases-clearing double in Emory & Henry’s 15-2 win against Anderson over the weekend.

Freshman Conner Coy (South Rowan) is batting .286 with seven RBIs in 35 at-bats for Pfeiffer.

Brett Morris (South Rowan) walloped a grand slam recently for Surry Community College.
Freshmen Gaige Scruggs (West Rowan), Eli Graham (West Rowan) and Brice Knox (West Rowan) have hit homers for Surry.
Knox has 20 hits and is batting .317.
College softball
Catawba’s Brianna Gallagher is the SAC Player of the Week after batting .667 in four games with two homers, 11 RBIs and seven runs scored.
Gallagher broke the program’s all-time career hits record.
Commits, signings
South Rowan’s Matt Overcash (Averett) and Rhyne Keller (William Peace) will pitch at the next level.
South Rowan runner Madalynn Gulledge is headed to Pfeiffer.
Scholars
Georgia Southern’s Kyla Bryant (Salsibury) and Catawba’s Mary Spry (Carson) were among the players announced as academic all-district honorees on Tuesday.
College basketball
Charlotte Athletics will hold an introductory press conference for men’s basketball coach Wes Miller on Wednesday at Halton Arena.
College football
Deuce Walker (Salisbury) entered the transfer portal in December but the DB withdrew his name in January and will be a junior at Georgia State.
NCHSAA
Que Tucker announced she will retire as commissioner of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, effective October 1.
Tucker joined the NCHSAA staff in 1991 after serving as an assistant women’s basketball coach at North Carolina State University. She became commissioner in 2015. She was the first woman and the first African American to hold that position.
