CHARLOTTE — Livingstone’s women’s basketball team played a terrific first quarter that propelled them to a 76-67 road win at CIAA rival J.C. Smith on Wednesday.
Livingstone made 11 of its 16 shots in the first quarter and opened up a 28-10 lead. The Blue Bears (5-16, 4-6) led from wire to wire in front of 953 disappointed fans in Brayboy Gym.
The difference-maker was Nielle Reaves, who came off the bench to make four 3-pointers. She scored 18 points.
Ny’Asia Green (15), Boston Bates (14), Breasia Coit (12) and Jasiyah Crawford (11) also scored in double digits.
Salote Franklin scored 17 for the Golden Bulls (7-12, 4-8).
Livingstone lost the turnover battle 20-10, but made up for it in the shooting stats. The Blue Bears shot 46 percent from the field, made 14 of 17 free throws and hit eight 3-pointers. The home team shot 35 percent and made only one 3-pointer.
