HARTSVILLE, S.C. — Catawba’s women’s basketball team suffered a painful loss at Coker on Wednesday.
The Indians controlled the first half and led by 14 points at halftime, but the Cobras rallied in the final three minutes to take a 56-51 victory. Coker finished the game on a 13-0 run.
Catawba (7-13, 5-10) still led by eight at 51-43 with 2:57 left, but didn’t score again.
Coker (17-4, 12-3) has been one of the South Atlantic Conference’s better teams all season, but the Indians could have won at the DeLoach Center in front of 376 fans. Coker shot 33.3 percent and was 7-for-27 on 3-pointers.
Catawba shot 34 percent, was only 4-for-21 from 3-point range and lost the turnover battle, 19-14.
Coker swept the Indians for the first time since joining the South Atlantic Conference. Coker won 71-55 in Salisbury in December when the Cobras were really playing well.
Saniya Wilson scored 13 for Catawba. Mary Spry (Carson) had 12 points and eight rebounds. Sheree Gidney scored 10.
Shawnteanna Tillman didn’t have an efficient shooting night, but still scored 27 for the Cobras.
It was a Play4Kay Game on National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
