BOCA RATON, Fla. — Joe Burleyson got a strikeout with the bases loaded to end Sunday’s game, and fifth-ranked Catawba beat Lynn 7-5 for a 3-0 start to the baseball season.
Burleyson logged an eventful, six-out save.
Newcomer Malachi Cloud had the biggest hit for the Indians, a two-run double in the eighth to break a 5-all after Lynn had made a comeback from a 5-1 deficit.
Calvin Douglas, who stopped Lynn’s uprising in the seventh, was credited with the win.
Casey Gouge got the start for Catawba and worked five innings. He struck out eight, walked three, allowed three hits and gave up one run.
Ty Hubbard had two hits. Sam Hunter and Matthew Connolly hit solo homers.
Catawba will play its fourth game on the trip at Barry on Monday.
