SALISBURY — West Rowan senior Tiara Thompson scored her 1,000th point in three seasons as a Falcon in the first quarter of a 56-21 romp against North Rowan in a first-round game in the Dale’s Sporting Goods Sam Moir Christmas Classic.
Thompson, who played on West state championship teams as a freshman and sophomore before playing her junior season in Maryland, finished with 25 points for the top-seeded Falcons (9-0) for a career total of 1,016.
Thompson has scored 20 or more points in every game this season and 25 or more in her last six.
Aubrey Martin scored a career-high 18 for the Falcons. She was in double figures for the fifth time this season. She missed last season with ACL surgery.
Zakiya Oglesby and Essence Robinson scored six each for the eighth-seeded Cavaliers (1-8), who have lost eight straight since trouncing Thomasville on opening night.
North has been hurt by injuries and illness and had a short bench on Saturday.

SALISBURY — South Rowan’s girls broke open a tight game with a big fourth quarter and beat Salisbury 37-27
Seventh-seeded Salisbury (1-5) jumped out to a 7-1 lead. South didn’t make its first field goal until the final seconds of the first quarter.
The Raiders (7-2) gradually settled in at Goodman Gym and were only down 14-12 at halftime.
Ella Morgan made a 3-pointer for a 21-21 tie midway through the third quarter.
Day Pharr and Avery Fisher made two buckets each as South outscored the Hornets 16-5 in the fourth quarter.
Pharr led the Raiders with nine points. Keaira Spruill led the Hornets with seven.
South advanced to a Monday semifinal against East Rowan at 3 p.m.

SALISBURY — Central Davidson beat Carson 45-36 in a competitive Moir first-round game on Saturday.
The fourth-seeded Spartans (5-2) got 14 points each from Bethany Myers and Raegan McCarn.
Fifth-seeded Carson (3-5) got nine points each from Leana Baldwin and freshman Cambrie Perry, but the Cougars were held under 40 points for only the second time this season.
Central did a good job defensively against Rylee Hedrick (5 points) and Audrey Faggart (2 points). Those two are often in double figures for the Cougars.
Carson was missing Julia Burleson, who is on a trip to Italy over the holiday break. Burleson has scored in double digits four times.
Down 21-14 at the break, Carson got back as close as 28-25 late in the third quarter on a put-back by Baldwin, but the Spartans didn’t wilt.
“We played hard,” Carson head coach Chloe Monroe said. “But we struggled to score.”
