SALISBURY — Salisbury lost 55-31 to Northwest Cabarrus in a South Piedmont Conference opener on Tuesday.
The Hornets got off to a strong start, with Keaira Spruill scoring the game’s first five points. The Hornets got up 7-0, but then the Trojans started to settle in.
Salisbury led 9-8 after a quarter and had another strong burst to begin the second quarter, pushing back out to a 17-10 lead on a three-point play by Jaliyah McNeely. Northwest finished the half strong and took a 21-20 lead to the break.
Northwest (4-1, 1-0) took charge early in the second half with a flurry of points, moving out to a 34-26 lead. Then Northwest scored 17 straight to go up by 25.
Hampered by turnovers, Salisbury (0-3) was outscored 34-11 in the second half.
