CHINA GROVE — Carson’s girls basketball team opened the season with a 59-41 loss to Piedmont.
“Just struggled to score in the first half, couldn’t get anything to fall,” Carson head coach Chloe Monroe said. “And foul trouble hurt us the whole game.”
Down 36-14 at the break, the Cougars rallied back within 10, but could get no closer.
Julia Burleson scored 16 to spark the Cougars (0-1).
Charleigh Battle scored 20 for the Panthers (2-0). Peyton Conway scored 17.
