Staff report
KANNAPOLIS — East Rowan senior Kaley “KP” Pfister wrapped up South Piedmont Conference Player of the Year honors on Monday and led the Mustangs to the conference championship.
East’s Tinsley Merrell was named SPC Coach of the Year.
East won Monday’s match with a team score of 40-46-49 — 135.
Pfister was medalist in the final match of the league season, shooting a 40 in the nine-hole match at The Club at Irish Creek.
She was playing in a threesome with the other two individual leaders in the season standings — Robinson’s Ava Mason and Northwest Cabarrus’ Carson Verburg.
Pfister’s 5-over 40 did not start auspiciously, as she had double bogeys on 2 and 3.
She hit her drive to the left on No. 2, and then she had some tree issues.
She settled in on No. 4 and made pars on the last five holes. She hit her approach shot to within 4 feet on No. 9 and made the par putt.
Mason was the leader most of the round but had double bogeys on 7 and 9.
East’s Cailey Ludwig shot 46 to tie for fifth, Izzy Stepp and Jaelyn Earnhardt shot 49s and were tied for sixth.
Mason shot 42 for second. Verburg shot 43 for third.
South Rowan’s Margo Maples shot 46 and was in the tie for fifth. South’s Sawyer Sherrill shot 51 and tied for eighth.
Salisbury’s Allie Peeler shot 51 to tie for eighth. West Rowan’s Hailee Martin shot 52 for 10th place.
