NEW LONDON — North Rowan’s four-game winning streak ended at North Stanly on Friday.
The Comets took a 35-23 victory over the Cavaliers that could mean a three-way tie for first place in the Yadkin Valley Conference. South Stanly, which beat North Stanly but lost to North Rowan, also is part of that deadlock. The top three will be heavily favored to win their remaining two league games.
Injuries hurt the Cavaliers (4-4, 4-1).
North Stanly (7-1, 4-1) rallied with a 21-point third quarter. The Comets did almost all of their damage on the ground, rushing for more than 200 yards.
North Rowan couldn’t have gotten off to a better start. A’son Best ran the opening kickoff back 86 yards for his third KOR TD of the season.
North’s other two TDs came from Jo Jo Tarver. He had a rushing TD and caught a 36-yard pass from Mike Alford for a score.
Alford was 12-for-17 for 197 yards, with one interception. Dyaon Norman-Jackson had two catches for 92 yards.
Jordin Moreno punted well and kicked three PATs.
North Rowan scored late in the game on a safety. Alford. Quae Brooker and Andrew Tichenor were involved on that play.
North’s defense made a goal-line stand late in the first half to preserve a 14-7 halftime lead.
Next for North Rowan is Albemarle. Next for North Stanly is Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy. The Comets’ only issue in that one is going to be boredom.

HARRISBURG — A tremendous game by young back Lemar Grier led A.L. Brown to a 28-14 Greater Metro Conference win against Hickory Ridge.
Grier rushed 26 times for 182 yards and three TDs for the Wonders (5-3, 4-1).
Hezzi Allison had a 14-yard fumble return for a touchdown.
Dhilyn Hollis had a super game for the Wonders’ defense with 10 tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble.
Demetrius Adams made an interception. Gavin Yow had 11 tackles.
The Wonders will take on Cox Mill next, while Hickory Ridge will play Harding.

CONCORD — West Rowan was overwhelmed 49-0 by Robinson, as the Bulldogs stayed tied for first in the South Piedmont Conference with Northwest Cabarrus.
The Falcons (4-4, 3-2) were down 42-0 at the half.
Robinson QB Aury Greenfield torched West for 340 yards and three TDs while completing 15 of 18 passes. He also ran for 80 yards.
LJ Watson added two rushing TDs for the Bulldogs (7-1, 5-0). Isaiah Woodburn made 15 tackles.
West’s Brant Graham threw for 94 yards, with one interception.
Devaunh White carried 11 times for 65 yards, but the Bulldogs contained him. White’s longest run was 14 yards. Dillon Smith led West receivers with two catches for 40 yards.
West plays Northwest Cabarrus next. Robinson takes on Carson.

Mooresville pounded Davie 42-9 in a North Piedmont Conference game.
The Blue Devils (6-2, 3-0) had over 400 yards of offense. Davie is 5-3, 2-1 and gets Lake Norman next.
