SALISBURY — Salisbury hadn’t won a football game since Aug. 29 when the Hornets managed to outscore North Rowan 40-36.
But the “Thunder Dance” returned to Ludwig Stadium on Friday’s Senior Night.
The Hornets won emphatically, taking control early and blasting South Rowan 42-7 for the Hornets’ first South Piedmont Conference victory of the season and the first SPC football triumph for the Hornets since 1992.
Salisbury QB Isaiah Foxx had a huge game, throwing for 227 yards and two touchdowns and running 11 times for 100 yards and two more scores.
Foxx broke a 53-yard scoring run while fans were still finding their seats. It stayed 7-0 for quite a while, but Foxx hit Zay’Vien Heaggins for a 64-yard scoring pass for 14-0 midway through the second quarter. Then the Hornets started rolling.
Jonathan Ross had a big game for the Hornets, punching in two short touchdown runs and catching a touchdown pass from Heaggins. Ross had nine catches for 111 yards and also had a forced fumble on defense.
Vamara Jabateh and Ephraim Williams made eight tackles each for the Hornets. Jabateh had a fumble recovery. Da’Rrius Jefferies was credited with 1.5 sacks.
Samuel Fatovic was 6-for-6 on PATs.
South’s lone score came on a blocked punt, with Zion Archie getting the block and Dacorian Pharr getting the touchdown.
With Lincoln Carlberg out, South QBs Landon Deal and Brooks Hunter combined for 90 passing yards, mostly to Trystin Chadwick, who had four catches for 73 yards. Chadwick also had a good night punting, averaging better than 40 yards per kick.
Nic Woolf returned to the South lineup after being injured very early in the Robinson game. He ran 19 times for 66 yards. Jayden Arthur had 10 carries for 51 yards, but the Raiders (3-5, 0-5) dropped their fifth in a row.
South gets East Rowan next, while Salisbury takes on Concord, the third-place team in the SPC.
