CHINA GROVE — Carson’s girls tennis team got its first win for new coach Jessica Freeze on Tuesday.
Freeze probably was best known as a softball player for the Cougars in high school, and she went on to play at Greensboro College.
Freeze served the assistant last season for head coach Kayela Galloway, who has stepped down from coaching to spend more time with her family.
The Cougars opened the season by beating South Piedmont Conference opponent Robinson, 8-1, in a match completed on Tuesday.
Caylee Sheets, Annabel Melton, Lainey Sifford and Ava Brown were singles winners for Carson.
The Bulldogs won a close one at No. 4 singles.
No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles weren’t contested by the Bulldogs.
Sheets/Melton and Sifford/Reagan Bradshaw were winning doubles teams for Carson.
