The owners of Glass Ingenuity are picking up the pieces of their small downtown business on Thursday after a vehicle crashed through the window of the South Main Street store earlier in the day.
Owner Cora Greene confirmed that Glass Ingenuity will be closed through Saturday as a result of the collision that occurred around 4 a.m.
“A car crashed through our front window in the early morning hours causing significant damage,” reads the store’s official Facebook page. “We are working hard to get back into operation! Thank you for your understanding.”
In a Thursday conversation, Greene said that the crash would not impact the stained-glass classes that the business offers because that area of the store was not damaged by the vehicle. However, the damage incurred at the front of the business where the gallery and store were located was comprehensive.
Greene said they are working to get everything back together. Video evidence shared with the Post of nearby surveillance cameras shows an individual fleeing the scene after the crash that occurred amidst an alleged pursuit from law enforcement.
According to information from the sheriff’s office, a deputy was in the city around 4 a.m. when they observed the driver of the vehicle allegedly run a red light. The vehicle operator also did not have any lights activated on the car. The deputy engaged the driver in a pursuit that lasted less than a mile. As the driver of the crashed vehicle sped through the intersection at Fisher Street and South Main, they collided with the building and exited the vehicle. The sheriff’s office confirmed that the individual appeaered to be a juvenile. Since they were unable to apprehend the individual in the ensuing chase, their identity remains unknown to law enforcment.
The entire incident remains under investigation.
“We are trying to figure out who was operating the car and who owns the car,” Chief Deputy Jason Owens said on Thursday. “There are still a lot of those things that we are trying to figure out right now.”
As more information becomes available in this case, the story will be updated.
