A former RSS employee alleged to have had an inappropriate relationship with a student in 2024 has been arrested.
According to a release from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, on Nov. 22, 2024, the the department received a report that the former employee, identified as a Ricky Taylor, now 56, was involved with a student in an inappropriate way.
When detectives began investigating, they learned that Taylor had moved out of state to an unknown location. The investigation continued over months, and a warrant was issued in July of 2025 for his arrest. Since his whereabouts remained unknown, he was entered into a nationwide wanted person’s database.
Last month, Taylor was in Florida attempting to board a cruise ship when his name was flagged as a wanted person. He was arrested and extradited back to North Carolina to face the charge of indecent liberties with a student by a school guardian. He was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center. Arrest records indicated that he was living on Helen Street in Chester, South Carolina, at the time of his arrest. No bond was listed on that report.
“Because the victim in this case is a juvenile, no more information will be released at this time,” a spokesperson with the sheriff’s office said.
The location of Taylor’s workplace while employed with the Rowan-Salisbury School System was not disclosed.
