SALISBURY — Rowan Helping Ministries is welcoming back a familiar face to lead the Salisbury-based nonprofit.
Former RHM Executive Director Kyna Gubb is stepping into the administrative role on an interim basis following her successor’s departure.
Cress Goodnight, who was RHM’s executive director for a few months following Grubb’s retirement earlier this year, resigned from his position last week, effective immediately. The board of directors met this week to discuss next steps after Goodnight’s announcement. On Wednesday, Director of Development & Community Engagement Leslie Cabagnot confirmed that Grubb was returning to her position.
“Our Board has appointed former Executive Director Kyna Grubb to return as Interim Executive Director, effective August 19,” Cabagnot wrote in a Wednesday email.
Grubb led Rowan Helping Ministries for 15 years before stepping away and, according to Cabagnot’s email, “will work with our Board, leadership team, and staff during the transition.”
Cabagnot indicated that there would be no disruption to the programs and services RHM provides.
Grubb previously served as executive director since 2010. During her tenure, Grubb oversaw significant organizational growth and transformation, including a $7 million expansion project in 2014 that added a new community shelter and kitchen.
According to the release from RHM last year, at the time of her retirement announcement, she was leading a $9 million capital campaign aimed at expanding pathways to housing for individuals experiencing homelessness, including the development of additional transitional and permanent supportive housing, and expanded primary care and behavioral health services on Rowan Helping Ministries’ campus.
As for Goodnight, on Wednesday, he said, “I am proud of what we accomplished together during my time in this role, particularly our work with the displaced Wiley Apartment Fire residents, which created meaningful opportunities for community engagement, advocacy and support.
“I wish RHM and its team continued success in carrying out their mission.”
Goodnight did not indicate his next professional plans. Updates to the director search and prospective new hire will be provided as they become available.
