SALISBURY — Starting on Friday, Aug. 14, construction crews will be on site at City Park and Kelsey Scott Park for work on new permanent restrooms.
The restroom renovations have been on the docket for many months, with the first update on either project in January. At that point, it was projected that construction would start in the spring with completion in fall 2026, but the timeline has since shifted. They were waiting for city and county permit approvals at the time before opening construction bids.
At the June 2 City Council meeting, the Council approved a construction contract with Randolf and Sons for $622,717 to complete work on both the Kelsey Scott and City Park bathroom facilities.
Crews will be onsite at both parks for the next few months, with an expected completion date in early 2027.
Park amenities at both parks will not be impacted by the construction, with only some areas around the new bathroom facilities fenced off. The City Park shelter and the Kelsey Scott portable restrooms have already been moved to accommodate the construction.
At Kelsey Scott Park off Old Wilkesboro Road, the primary impacted area will be on the left side of the parking lot. At City Park, the primarily impacted area will be next to the pond off West Miller Street.
In a social media post on the construction, the city encouraged residents to take caution around both parks while crews work.
