TEMPE, Ariz. – CJ Gray (A.L. Brown) turned some heads on Saturday with a lights-out performance in an Arizona Complex League game.
Gray struck out 10 batters in five innings, while allowing one hit and two walks.
The Angels are understandably excited about Gray’s strong right arm and potential. They haven’t rushed him into Class A ball yet, as he’s worked on his consistency and command in Arizona.
Gray signed as an 18-year-old last summer. He is 6-foot-2, 205 pounds, still growing and turned 19 in January.
The Angels drafted him on the fifth round, although they paid him a lot more than fifth-round money to pull him away from a scholarship to NC State. Gray reportedly signed for $1,247,500.
