The Salisbury Police Department is investigating a fatal two-vehicle traffic collision that claimed the lives of three people late Saturday night.
On Saturday, July 18, 2026, at approximately 10:45 p.m., officers responded to the area of Mooresville Road (N.C. 150) near Town Court following a reported traffic collision.
According to information from the Salisbury Police Department, when officers arrived, they found one of the vehicles occupied by three individuals who had sustained critical injuries. Two occupants were pronounced deceased at the scene. A third occupant was airlifted for medical treatment but later died from injuries sustained in the collision.
The second vehicle was located a short distance from the collision scene after leaving the roadway and coming to rest in a creek bed. With assistance from a Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office K-9 team, officers located the driver, who was transported to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center before being transferred to a Charlotte-area hospital for additional treatment.
Following the preliminary investigation, the driver of the second vehicle, 44-year-old Javiel Pena Sola has been charged with three counts of felony hit and run involving serious injury or death.
In the press release, the Salisbury Police Department extended condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives. The names of the deceased are currently being withheld pending appropriate family notifications.
The Salisbury Police Department Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the collision, and additional charges may be filed as the investigation progresses.
Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures in the area while investigators continue processing the scene.
