A motorist killed in Thursday morning’s interstate collision has been identified.
Evan Winston Johnson, 35, of Mint Hill, was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck that occurred around 1 a.m. in the southbound lane of Interstate-85 near the Old Union Church Road exit (East Spencer).
According to reports from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a red passenger car and a silver passenger car collided in the roadway. The red vehicle came to a rest on the shoulder of the road, however the silver vehicle came to a rest on the interstate in the way of oncoming traffic.
A tractor trailer hauling milk cartons reportedly struck the silver vehicle, ejecting Johnson from the driver’s seat.
After colliding with Johnson’s vehicle, that tractor trailer went down an embankment and overturned.
