SPENCER – Union Academy Charter’s boys won the Yadkin Valley Conference Track and Field Championships held at North Rowan on Thursday.
The Cardinals totaled 130 points to top North Rowan (116), Albemarle (100), North Stanly (89), Gray Stone (48) and South Stanly (36).
Myles Witherspoon led the Cavaliers’ effort with first places in the 110 hurdles (15.02 seconds), 300 hurdles (42.85) and high jump (5 feet, 10 inches).
Zy’Quize Carpenter won the triple jump (43-1).
Nick Morrow took second in the 400. Eric Fair finished second to Witherspoon in both hurdling events. Brenden Ellis had thirds in the triple jump and discus.
North Rowan scored well in the relays, but didn’t win any. North Stanly took the 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400. North Stanly’s Justice Gramling won the 100 in 10.95 seconds.
Union Academy won the 4×800 relay and had five individual wins in the discus, long jump, 400, 1600 and 3200.
Gray Stone’s Layne Higgins won the 800.
Albemarle athletes won the shot put and the 200.
The pole vault was not contested.
