Staff report
Gage Goodnight, a 6-foot-6 rising sophomore basketball player, is transferring to Salisbury High.
Goodnight, 15, played the majority of his freshman season for the North Iredell jayvees, but he also played in 10 varsity games.
Goodnight is long, agile and moves smoothly. He looks to be more of a forward than a center, but he jumps well enough that he is a potential shot-blocker for the Hornets.
Goodnight’s family is in the lumber business. He plays for the Carolina Stars AAU program.
The Goodnights have family in Salisbury. Gage’s mother, Erica Lunsford Goodnight, made the announcement that her son was transferring via Facebook.
Salisbury, the defending 4A state champs, graduated good players, including South Piedmont Conference Player of the Year Braylon Taylor and All-SPC Jon Ross, but standouts Blake Smith and Royce Perkins are expected to lead another strong squad in 2026-27.
