TROUTMAN – West Rowan’s non-conference baseball game with South Iredell was suspended in the 11th inning late Wednesday night.
The game was stopped with West (13-4) batting in the top of the 11th after an umpire was struck by a ball and could not continue. West had just taken a 6-5 lead on a Luke Ponczka double off the wall. West had one out and runners at second and third when play was halted.
West trailed the Vikings 5-3 going to the top of the seventh, but was able to score twice and send the game to extra innings.
Both teams scored two runs in the first. South Iredell scored three in the sixth.
Maddox Moore started on the mound for the Falcons and struck out 10. Ponczka relieved Moore in the sixth. Brant Graham relieved Ponczka in the 10th and struck out two Vikings (8-7) with two men on base.
Moore homered for the Falcons. Carter Durant and Brody Pope had doubles.
Durant, who is batting over .500, had three hits. Ponczka knocked in three runs.
South Iredell played Watauga Thursday night.
West Rowan is scheduled to play Robinson on Friday. Graham threw only eight pitches, so he’s still set to start Friday’s game.
West coach Seth Graham said the game will be completed at some point.
