Staff report
CONCORD – Carson slugger Ryan Snyder is a cancer survivor, so every swing he takes in the batter’s box is a win for him, his family, his team and his school.
Still, some of Snyder’s powerful, left-handed swings are better than others. He had a really good one on Friday, a three-run homer that keyed a 9-2 South Piedmont Conference victory at Robinson. The Cougars have hit four homers this season. This was the third one for Snyder.
Robinson (6-14, 3-9) held a 2-1 lead going to the top of the fourth, but Snyder’s blast keyed a six-run inning for Carson that turned the game around.
Dylan Alexander was in charge on the mound for the Cougars for six innings. He struck out four and there weren’t a lot of Bulldogs on the bases. Carson Kirk pitched the seventh.
Kirk had three hits. Will Beck had two hits.
Kendal Sifford had two hits and scored two runs. The standout pitcher, who got his 100th career strikeout recently, has helped out with the bat quite a bit this season.
Jace Abraham had both RBIs for the Bulldogs.
East Rowan, South Rowan and West Rowan have such super records season that it’s been easy to overlook Carson, but the Cougars (10-10, 8-4) aren’t bad at all. They’ve won the SPC games they were supposed to win, so when you look at the standings, Carson is now just one game behind South and West in the tussle for second place.
Carson plays South twice in the week ahead. They could be exciting games.
Carson 100 600 2 – 9
Robinson 002 000 0 – 2
W – Alexander (3-3).
HR – Snyder (3).
