SALISBURY – GARS members played at the Revival at the Crescent Golf Course.
Low ‘A” Flight player was Larry Petrea with a net of 62.85. Low ‘B’ Flight player was Dan Newell with a net of 60.02. Low ‘C’ Flight player was Johnny Morris with a net of 57.76. Low ‘D’ Flight player was Chuck Jones with a net of 58.62.
Petrea shot 1-under 71 to edge Brice Hollis’ even par 72 to win low gross. Morris won low net score. Bobby Bryant was Super Senior with a net of 61.26.
Three golfers beat their age. Petrea,74, shot a 71. Morris, 80, shot a 78. Bobby Clark, 86, shot 85.
Three eagles were made. Petrea and Ray Pope eagled the par-4 No. 4 hole, while Morris eagled the par-5 17th.
MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL
Cobb Hightower (East Rowan) went 3-for-4 with two RBIs on opening night for the Delmarva Shorebirds of the Carolina League.

The Kannapolis Cannon Ballers lost 4-3 in their opener on Thursday to the Hill City Howlers.

SPENCER – Gray Stone rolled 16-4 at North Rowan in Thursday’s Yadkin Valley Conference game.
Winning pitcher Caleb Vullo socked a homer for the Knights (5-5, 2-4), who finished a sweep of the Cavaliers. Cliffton Hatley had a triple.
Justin Tyler tripled for North (2-9, 1-5). Joseph Keener, Jordan Grant, Donnie Rogers and Caleb Everett had RBIs. Chase Cauble, Grant and Rogers pitched.

CONCORD – South Rowan scored eight runs in the fifth inning and ended Thursday’s South Piedmont Conference game at Robinson early.
South won 12-0 to finish a sweep of the Bulldogs (5-7, 3-5).
With West Rowan winning against East Rowan on Thursday, the Raiders (13-1, 7-1) moved into a tie for first place with the Mustangs. South and East are one game ahead of West Rowan and Carson.
South out-hit the Bulldogs 11-2 and got strong pitching from Rhyne Keller.

KANNAPOLIS – Tellis Bumgarner struck out eight and pitched a two-hitter as Central Cabarrus smacked A.L. Brown 13-0 in six innings in Thursday’s Greater Metro Conference game.
It was the first league loss for the Wonders (12-3, 7-1).
Kit Stafford drove in three runs for the Vikings (8-6, 5-5).
HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS SOCCER
CONCORD – Robinson beat South Rowan 1-0 on Thursday in a struggle between South Piedmont Conference contenders.
South (8-2-1, 4-2) had nine shots.
Robinson (8-1, 5-1) got a first-half goal from Reagan Sherwood.
Margo Maples made eight saves for the Raiders.

MOUNT ULLA – West Rowan edged East Rowan 1-0 in South Piedmont Conference girls soccer on Thursday.
Olyvia Brown scored in the first half for West (4-4, 2-4), with Addison Broeckling getting the assist. East is 1-9-1 overall and 1-5 in the SPC.
“We didn’t win by the margin that we probably should have, but East is an improved team, much better than last year,” West coach Chris Mead said. “We probably out-shot them something like 25 to 3, but East’s keeper made some phenomenal saves.”

CHINA GROVE – Concord is starting to get some wins in the South Piedmont Conference and beat Carson 2-0 on Thursday.
The Spiders (5-5, 2-4) scored twice in the first half, and the Cougars (2-7, 0-6) couldn’t mount a comeback.

West Rowan defensive lineman Kayden Weeks, SPC and Rowan County Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore, got his second Division I offer. He’s been offered by East Carolina and Old Dominion.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee’s Emma Clarke (West Rowan) hit her sixth homer of the season on Thursday in a win against South Carolina.
Clarke is batting .301 for the Vols (31-5) with 21 RBIs.
