WISE, Va. – Catawba’s women’s basketball team lost 70-60 at UVA Wise on Saturday, closing the books on the regular season.
Catawba wasn’t awful — 42-percent shooting with eight 3-pointers and 16 turnovers, but rebounding was a problem. UVA Wise shot 37 percent, but grabbed 14 offensive rebounds, compared to Catawba’s six.
Mary Spry (Carson) scored 20 and had six rebounds to lead the Indians again. The 6-foot senior averages 17.5 points and 5.9 rebounds.
Brooklin Ingram made three 3s and scored 13. Sheree Gidney was 2-for-2 on 3s and scored 10 0ff the bench.
The Indians (12-15, 10-12) finished seventh in the SAC. They’ll play in the conference tournament in Rock Hill on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. against second-seeded Lincoln Memorial.
UVA Wise (16-12, 13-9) earned a split of the season series with Catawba, avenging a 15-point loss in Salisbury in January.
