MISENHEIMER — North Stanly’s boys ended North Rowan’s five-game winning streak in Friday’s Yadkin Valley Conference Tournament championship game played in Pfeiffer’s Merner Gym.
The top-seeded Comets (24-2) won 59-51 to take two out of three meetings with the second-seeded Cavaliers (15-9).
North Rowan never led on Friday. The last tie was at 5-all. North Stanly scored the next five for 10-5 and kept the lead.
The Comets surged ahead by double digits in the second quarter, although North Rowan fought back to a 29-23 halftime deficit.
North Rowan stayed within striking distance in the second half — trailing by six to 11 points – but couldn’t make a run.
Carter Williams scored 21 for the Cavaliers. Jo Jo Tarver and Jordan Massenburg made two 3-pointers each and scored eight.
