CONCORD — Carson’s boys basketball team had some struggles on Saturday but had enough left in the tank to get past Mallard Creek 61-52.
The Cougars (8-0) had a draining victory against Salisbury on Friday.
Mallard Creek fell to 2-6.
Carson trailed the Mavericks 32-28 at the half, but was able to take the lead by holding MC to single digits in the third quarter.
Jacob Mills led the Cougars with six 3-pointers and 28 points.
CP Perry scored 20. The junior scored his 1,000th point as a Cougar in the fourth quarter on a free throw.
Perry is the seventh to score 1,000 points for the program. He’s coached by his father, Brian Perry.
Drew Neve scored 10. Corbin Krider made a 3-pointer and was the only other Cougar to get in the scorebook.

GREENSBORO — Salisbury’s boys suffered their second road loss in two days, falling at Dudley 62-54 in a game played at Ben Smith.
The Hornets are 5-2. The Panthers are 3-1.
Braylon Taylor scored 16 for the Hornets. Jon Ross had 11. Blake Smith had eight points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots.
“Tough weekend, but we learned valuable lessons,” Salisbury head coach Albert Perkins said. “There are a lot of takeaways from these last two games for me as a coach, and we’ll work to get better.”

MOUNT ULLA — West Rowan overcame an awful first quarter and beat Concord 59-52 for a South Piedmont Conference win on Friday.
The Falcons trailed 18-5 after a quarter, but were able to close the gap to 27-24 at the half. Then West took control with a strong third quarter.
Josiah Young led the Falcons (5-3, 2-0) with 15 points. Caleb Queen and Brant Graham scored 12 each. Ja’mih Tucker had eight points and eight assists. Jaylen “Batman” Donaldson scored eight.

CONCORD — Aiden Rochevot scored 24 points to lead Northwest Cabasrrus to a 76-46 victory against South Rowan in Friday’s South Piedmont Conference action.
Justin Gonder added 15 for the Trojans (2-5, 1-1). Jake Filipkowski had 14.
South (2-5, 0-2) stayed with the Trojans for a quarter, but Northwest Cabarrus took charge in the second quarter and built a 37-23 halftime lead.
Anderson Pauley scored 14 for the Raiders. Maverick Morgan produced a 12-point fourth quarter with three 3-pointers.

KERNERSVILLE — North Rowan’s boys put up a battle in a 64-56 loss at East Forsyth on Friday.
Freshman Jordan Massenburg carried most of the scoring load with 26 points. Carter Williams didn’t have a great shooting night but had 11 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. Michael Alford had eight points and eight rebounds. Jo Jo Tarver had six assists.
“We battled all night against a 7A school,” North head coach Herb Liles said. “We had too many turnovers that gave them easy points and they were able to bully us for some second-chance points, but we showed we’ve still got plenty of confidence and fight in us.”
East Forsyth’s Dominique Tshiboyi had 16 points and 16 rebounds for the Eagles (2-3).
