CHARLOTTE — Corvian Community School beat North Rowan 45-7 on Friday in a second-round game in the 2A state playoffs.
Any hope North Rowan had of an upset disappeared when quarterback Mike Alford went out with an injury. The 12th-seeded Cavaliers trailed 14-7 when Alford was hurt.
Alford was 4-for-7 for 89 yards. Shakeel Monroe Jr. was 5-for-8 for 85 yards.
Fifth-seeded Corvian (9-1) was able to contain A’son Best ( 3 catches, 23 yards), but Dyaon Norman-Jackson had a big game with five catches for 111 yards.
North had 66 rushing yards.
The Cavaliers finished 7-5 after an 0-3 start and earned a share of the Yadkin Valley Conference championship. North Stanly and South Stanly, the teams North Rowan tied with, won their second-round games on Friday.
North Stanly outscored East Surry 49-45. South Stanly routed Christ the King 38-0.

MONROE — Brayden Graceffa threw for 337 yards and three TDs as Monroe knocked West Rowan out of the playoffs with a 49-14 second-round romp on Friday.
Eighth-seeded Monroe (7-3) got 154 receiving yards from Bryson Simpkins.
Brant Graham threw a touchdown pass to Dillon Smith for the ninth-seeded Falcons, and Smith tossed a TD pass to Brennon Sevenson on a trick play. West was limited to 37 passing yards.
Cooper Martin rushed 11 times for 99 yards for the Falcons. Devaunh White had 10 carries for 69 yards. Carter Durant kicked two PATs.
West finished 7-5, with five victories against Rowan opponents.
