Staff report
Albany, Ga. – North Rowan graduate Larry Dixon got his first official win as a college head coach on Thursday when his Morehouse squad won 77-54 at Albany State.
Dixon had coached an exhibition victory against Talladega College earlier this season, but this one counted. This game was the SIAC opener for Morehouse (1-2). Morehouse had lost two close non-conference games, one of them by one point.
Dixon played in college at J.C. Smith and spent decades as an assistant coach. He was part of the staff that recently reached the Final Four at NC State.
Now he’s finally getting a chance to mold and lead his own program at one of the nation’s most prestigious HBCU schools. The Maroon Tigers of Morehouse will play at Spring Hill in Mobile, Ala., on Saturday.
