LANDIS — One person is dead after a fire in Landis on Wednesday night.
The Landis Fire Department responded to a home in the 200 block of West Taylor Street at approximately 10:40 p.m., according to a release from the town, and confirmed the active structure fire. Crews attempted to control the fire for over an hour, but ultimately the fire destroyed the home.
During operations, firefighters found one person dead in the home, according to the release. The identity of that person has not been released at that time.
Departments that responded to assist included the Locke, China Grove, Enochville, Kannapolis, Bostian Heights fire departments and the Rowan County Rescue Squad.
The Landis Police Department and Rowan County Fire Marshals Office are investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact Assistant Police Chief Young or Sergeant Watts at 704-857-2129.
