MT. ULLA — One person was airlifted after a crash in western Rowan County on Wednesday.
The crash occurred in the 15300 block of N.C. Highway 801, in between the Childers and Edminston roads intersection, at approximately 4:15 p.m. The crash was a head-on collision between two vehicles.
A N.C. State Highway Patrol trooper on scene said that one of the driver suffered severe injuries in the crash and was flown by medical helicopter to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. That driver was also entrapped and required extraction.
The other driver suffered minor injuries, said the trooper.
Fire departments from both Rowan County and Iredell County, including Mooresville and West Rowan Volunteer fire departments, assisted with the crash response and road closure.
While the crash was still under investigation at the time of the Salisbury Post’s deadline, the trooper said that the crash appeared to have been caused when one of the drivers crossed the center line. The identities of those involved were also not available.
More information will be provided when it becomes public.
