MOUNT HOLLY — North Rowan’s football team won 30-21 at Mountain Island Charter on Thursday to close the regular season.
It was a major road victory for the Cavaliers (6-4, 6-1) and clinched a share of the Yadkin Valley Conference title, an eight-team league that includes teams from three different classifications.
North Stanly (8-1, 5-1) and South Stanly (7-2, 5-1) have league games on Friday and can still tie the Cavaliers for first. North Stanly isn’t expected to have any trouble against Union Academy. South Stanly may be challenged at Albemarle. The Bulldogs gave North Rowan a tough game last week.
North Rowan and MIC were tied 8-8 at halftime.
North Rowan got a big night on defense from Shakeel Monroe Jr. He recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown and made two interceptions.
Quae Brooker also had an interception.
Miek Alford threw touchdown passes to Dyaon Norman-Jackson and A’son Best and Best added a 2-point conversion reception.
Jo Jo Tarver had a rushing TD.
Jordin Moreno kicked his second field goal of the season and two PATs.
Mountain Island Charter is 5-5 and 4-3 in the league. The MIC Raptors lost 15-14 to South Stanly last week.

CONCORD — A.L. Brown won 20-10 at West Cabarrus in Greater Metro Conference football played on Thursday.
The Wonders (7-3, 6-1) shut out the Wolverines (5-5, 5-2) in the second half.
A highlight for A.L. Brown was running back Lemar Grier surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
